The Histories of Orthodoxy Partnership (HOP) aims to address the challenges in studying ultra-Orthodox and Hasidic history by uniting the resources of three key repositories: the Bais Yaakov Project at the University of Toronto, the Digital Hasidism Project at the University of Wroclaw, and the Hasidic Stories Project at the Open University in Israel. Our platform will offer a comprehensive collection of archival materials and digital resources that explore the lives of Orthodox women, men, and children, while integrating historical and cultural dimensions of Orthodoxy across Eastern Europe and beyond.
HOP’s mission is to enrich the study of Orthodox history by providing broader access to materials, preserving this heritage for future generations, and offering opportunities for collaborative research, conferences, and publications. By using digital tools like network analysis and mapping, we aim to ask big questions about Orthodox social structures and enhance public understanding of this often-insular community.
